Gay Pride 2007
June 17, 2007

I'm proud that after so many years of pain and struggle, this young Gay man has the option not to be proud.

We've come along way, baby.

Thanks for linking to my post, but I think you may have missed my point. What I said in my post is that there are things that the gay rights leadership is doing that I don't agree with and that I'm not proud of. What I did not say is that I'm not proud to be gay; on the contrary, I am proud to be a gay man. But I'm not proud of some of the things that the gay rights leadership is doing in my name.

Nate, you always have the option of being a leader yourself.

Gay Pride is a nice thing, something that we weren't always able to have, or to have easily. Watching the parades, walking through the fairgrounds, one of the things you should note isn't just the craziness going on. You find craziness at many, many events, regardless of the sexual orientation of those involved.

Prides are full of people from every walks of life, every shape, political persuasion, and variation on sexual orientation. The vast majority are regular folks, enjoying the zaniness of the day. (There are even a few who only get that one day to be themselves.)

A little more than 30 years ago, such things didn't exist. It's incredible how far we've come in such a short period of time.
