About that Regional War
March 23, 2007
Regarding Brezezinski's comment about the US getting dragged into a regional war in the Mideast, it occurs to me that it might start over something like this:
BBC News: Iran Detains 15 U.K. SailorsThis is not good people. I don't care for a regional war in the Mideast. I also really don't care for Iranians detaining Allied soliders. I hope this resolves quickly, safely and sanely, or else we're all in deep, deep, doo-doo.

The real escalation will occur when or if the Iranians fail to turn the UK marines over. The Brits ,anyone actually can close the straits of Hormuz very easily. That would mean someone will start shooting. This is the area (where the marines were seized) that Iraq and Iran contested leading to the 1981 Iran/Iraq war. Oh and more good news for us Californians Oil shot up on News of this incident. Gas here is $3.15 today can we say $4 is around the corner,,,Glad I have a frugal Civic hmm these people who drive Expeditions,Excursion's etc ;)

We're pretty close to $4.00 up here in Los Angeles, D. My Mustang isn't getting the workout it used to...
The Iranians also grabbed a bunch of Brits in 2003, early on in the war. Relations with them weren't as bad as they are now, and the hostages were returned. I'm concerned that won't happen now.
The Iranians and their nuclear ambitions are a threat to peace and stability -- far, far more than Iraq ever was. The problem with our stupid war in Iraq is that its prevented us from having the ability to deal effectively with -real- threats to international safety and security.
Like Iran.
