Film Update: Driving Me Insane
November 26, 2006
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
The start of the short film is just plainly wrong. I really don't know what exactly it is that's making the whole sequence suffer, just that as stuff is arranged right now, the images don't flow together well enough to set the stage for what comes next.
I've had several friends through to take a look at the rough cut of the movie. Today the composer stopped by to see how everything cut together and to begin working out his score for the piece. (It's going to be cool.) He's the latest to like the movie and to remark on the quality of the acting, the cinematography, the direction and the writing, but even he says that there is still a bit, right at the beginning, that doesn't make sense, something visual that doesn't express well enough what is occurred on the page.
Like a writing problem, this is a conceptual knot that I can't consciously reason out. It's an intuitive jump, one that the back of my mind is taking its own sweet time in making.
Yo! Dudes in the Dark back-brain! Work faster!! I've got a totally arbitrary and self-imposed deadline to keep here!
I swear the subconscious is a bunch of slackers.

"Yo! Dudes in the Dark back-brain! Work faster!! I've got a totally arbitrary and self-imposed deadline to keep here! I swear the subconscious is a bunch of slackers." Good 2 Lines there! Think about it,most films the ending is the nut,not the beginning. How many times do you hear someone say the start of a film sucked? Okay a short film is a whole different beast,it has to be tighter thematically,to flow but the beginning? Seems like your almost there if the start is the problem. Will you have to re shoot the opening? Probably no budget for that. Jody I have ever anticipated a short film more. opps sorry ,no pressure from the gallery! Okay time to take a whip to the minions of the back brain! Good Luck Dewayne
