...and the blessings of Secular Democracy, here's an example of how the centuries of Christian based murder and persecution of gays and lesbians has been basically done away with through the dominance of Civil Law. Arguments are no longer based in revelation but on appeals to persuasion, reason, and support. Those who still have superstitious objections to gay people must at least try -- badly -- to couch their arguments in something other than the blowing of the wind. And even then, it's no longer in pursuit of a divine command to murder, but rather to impede a change that is all but complete.
Always remember that the fight is not just against an enemy wielding a different club of superstition, but also against a home grown mindset that would throw askance all that we have worked so hard to achieve. The lessons of history are a pretty good guide.
