Second verse, same as the First
April 09, 2006
Obviously, Bush doesn't read my blog. I said use 'em if they attacked us, not the other way around.
Idiot.
Hat tip for ruining MY Sunday morning: Pharyngula.

I wouldn't put too much into that.
The DoD is *always* studying how to invade any country on the planet. They are constantly running simulations, war games, and other assorted actions on fictional and factual situations throughout the planet (all based on both actual and guestimated enemy strength).
Every Carrier captain out there has the knowledge and equipment to take out any country's force if anything should happen, at a moment's notice, just like every sub out there could launch their own missles utterly independent of any other actions out there.
So saying we're "thinking about it" is merely reminding Iran that we've *always* been thinking about it. We've had attack plans for Iran on constant cycle since the hostage crisis of '80. To the Navy at the least, nothing has changed; only new intelligence on what's worth hitting. The carriers have been fully prepared to strike "just in case" for the last 25 years.
But like i said, every so often, we need to remind them of this. Their own people were actually quite shielded from the full impact of what we did to Iraq. They play up small incidents on tv to hilight the "americans are evil" perspective and increase propaganda and hatred, but only because if they show the full horror of what a single carrier can do in a day's work, they would be far too full of fear rather than anger. The people and their leadership really do have no idea...
(not that I think they should actually go through with any action at this stage. i'm just saying that "we're weighing the options" is really a bullshit line because we're *always* weighing the options, 24/7, on every country, at every level, 'cause you never know who is going to become the next ass that needs to be taken down.)

I'm aware of the war game scenario and have no problem with that. We should rattle our saber and let the Iranians know we mean business.
What bothers me is that this second confirmed source that indicates Bush has moved into the "active" consideration of using conventional and nuclear weapons in the targeting of Iran. These are the same sources that leaked the information about the pending attack on Iraq. It's the same sources that have pointed out that, instead of being a skilled negotiator who used every means at his disposal to achieve an end (Kennedy, Cuba) Bush believes he's both called by God and will be judged by history to rid the world of terrorism and Iran of its nuclear ambitions.
That's very scary to me.
