I gotta read this book from the Cornell Evolution Project if for no other reason than Joe Carter's implication that the ideas in it are "dangerous.

Just to clarify, the reason I used the title "Darwin's Dangerous Religion" was simply to play off the title of Daniel Dennett's book "Darwin's Dangerous Idea." I'm not sure if Graffin's book would be considered "dangerous" (but since he is a an original member of the punk band Bad Religion, his music may be).
I also don't really think neo-deistic beliefs are all that dangerous, except possibly to the sensibilities of those who think that atheistic beliefs can't be religious.

Yeah, sure -- if you rend, bend, twist and otherwise contort the established English meaning. If you are going to do that, why stop there? Why not just say that "vanilla" is the same thing as religion?
"Toenail?"
Or "snuffypupplupabus?"
Same principal at work.

Because "vanilla", unlike atheism, isn't a religious belief. Atheism is not a religion, per se, but it is a religious belief. That should be rather uncontroversial. If you diagree then are you saying that you don't have First Amendment protection of religious beliefs since, as you seem to think, you don't have such beliefs?

"Vanilla" likeatheism. isn't a religious belief, Joe. Atheism means an absence or lacking a belief in god or gods.

If I had a religious belief, I'm sure I'd have a protection to it. What I do have is a First Amendment right to Freedom of Speech, the ability to speak about the fact that there are no gods. Same amendment, different section.
