Whitman-Walker to End AIDS Service in Suburbs

The Whitman-Walker Clinic will pull out of the Northern Virginia and Maryland suburbs, lay off nearly one-fourth of its staff of 260 and reduce, consolidate or end a host of other programs to stabilize the organization's finances and future.
Wow. Things have changed. My first professional jobs were with Whitman-Walker of Northern Virginia. I started as an intern, went on to help create a AIDS education program for teens and young adults, and ended up doing grief work and death and dying counseling when I got my Masters.

Here's a toast to Bob and Jay and Vinnie and Karen and all the other dedicated souls who worked tirelessly during the darkest times of the early 90s. They made such an impression on me as well as taught me attitudes and skills I still use today. Love you guys.

I know the battle isn't won. But part of why it's changing is because of what we did.
