Can I get some cheese on those MachoNachos?
April 27, 2005
MachoNacho writing at RedState.Org, pretzels non-existant logic into a case that Secular Humanism glorifies Islam.
In Europe.
I think.
Bad reasoning is so terribly hard to follow.
He says:It is shocking that Secular Humanist Europe has shunned Christianity in favor of Islam. Whatever may fairly be said about Muslims, they certainly cannot be accused of being less zealous in their belief or their dedication to their God, or their system of faith than Christians.
Let's be frank. When it comes to good old fashioned zealotry, and willingness to suffer for a belief in a higher being, ninety-nine out of one hundred Muslims have the average Christian whipped.
If you are a Christian, and reading the above quotes from Humanists who equate your faith in God with belief in fairies raised your hackles, can you imagine the hay someone like al-Zarqawi could make with such a statement?
Would anyone give me an over/under on the amount of time it would take one of the Wahabi Immams to issue a Fatwah upon anyone who said such a thing in their presence?I'm not sure about a fatwah but there does seem to be enough qiyas (reasoning) regarding Secular Humanism: Only by being subservient to his True God can Man be truly free. In other words, only by being a slave and servat to His Creator can he/she be free. If he/she rebels against his/her Creator, Who is Infinite, he/she becomes a slave of some finite god.
Through its arrogant assertion that human beings have full potential to achieve whatever they wish without the need of any help from God, secular humanism actually implies that human beings are gods. Islam stands on its own as a self-sufficient philosophy and world view without needing an extraneous philosophy. Besides it cannot be used as a frame for a world view that is not compatible with it either.
And Allah knows best.
And Allah knows best? Crap, if I ever get a chance to create a sitcom, that'll be the title for it.
Nacho confuses "Secularism" ("a view that religious considerations should be excluded from civil affairs or public education") with "Secular Humanism" ("an outlook or philosophy that advocates human rather than religious values.") While Europeans are far less religious than we are and while their governments are also more secular than ours and while they may even be coddling Islamists, none of that means that Europeans are Secular Humanists. SH is is a subset of Secularism -- you can have the latter without having the former. By conflating the two, Nacho sets up a straw man that he can easily knock down.
Bad analogy, bad definitions, bad reasoning --> bad plate o' food. Waiter! Send it back to the kitchen 'cause I ain't payin' for it. (Nor should you.)
